Point switching 1

As can be seen from the diagram, as the point changes, it acts as a switch, changing the frog polarity.

This assumes that the point blades are doing the power routing.
If we feed power in after the point on the main route, then it can be seen that there will be a short circuit which will trip out the controller, hopefully, otherwise it could blow the controller.
Point switching 2 As the diagram show, with a single rail break, there is no short circuit and the locomotive or engine will continue to operate correctly.
Point switching 3

If a third power feed is needed on the upper route, then another single rail break is required.
